Summer 2008 Rock Against Cancer! Bringing the healing power of music to kids fighting cancer….making music part of their cure! Rock Against Cancer is a nonprofit organization advocating for kids with cancer at the local, state and national level. Rock Against Cancer's programs provide children and families respite from the long and painful cancer treatment process using music, while helping to garner public awareness and support for the youngest victims of cancer. Rock Against Cancer held the first “Stars Night Out” concert event of the year with old friend’s matchbox 20. Young cancer patients being treated at Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City enjoyed matchbox 20’s special brand of hospitality during the March 6th concert. A huge thanks to Rob, Brian, Paul, Kyle, Leila, Dave and Jason all who made it special night to remember for young cancer patients.

May 30th, Rock Against Cancer, with the support of the Hot Topic Foundation, presented a $10,000 donation to support the “School of Rock” music therapy program at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA. Following the check presentation, UCLA's music therapist, Vanya Green held a music therapy demonstration with pediatric patients and their siblings in the Child Life Playroom. Vanya was hired in 2007 to work with young cancer patients after RAC and HTF made a $20,000 donation. June 24th, Dr. Lisa White, Dr. Titus and Sammy Keziah represented North Carolina at the recent CureSearch Reach the Day Advocacy event in Washington D.C. The NC Delegation made visits on Capitol Hill to increase support for the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act (H.R. 1553 and S 911). On June 12th the CCCA passed 416-0 in the House of Representatives. The NC Delegation garnered support from Senator’s Richard Burr and Elizabeth Dole during the visits as the CCCA will be voted on this summer by the Senate. Reach the Day hosted families from 36 states as CureSearch works to secure passage of the landmark Caroline Pryce Walker Conquer Childhood Cancer Act, which will provide $150 million in new funding to help us Reach the Day when all children diagnosed with cancer will have hope of a cure. September 13, 2008 will now be recognized as "National Childhood Cancer Awareness Day" as a result of a Senate resolution introduced by U.S. Senators Wayne Allard (R-Colo.) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY).
