STS9, LG ECOMOBILIZATION & LIVE NATION HAVE PARTNERED UP TO RAISE MONEY FOR RAC THROUGH USED ELECTRONICS DRIVE

Looking for an easy way to help save the environment and give money to a great cause? STS9 has partnered with LG ecoMobilization and Live Nation to help rid our world of unused or broken electronics by recycling items such as phones, tablets, MP3 players, GPS devices PDAs, batteries, chargers and more.
According to LG, about 130 million cellphones will end up in U.S. landfills this year, introducing possible toxins into our land and water supply. Using this easy opportunity to get rid of junk laying around will not only better our environment, but help a great cause: Rock Against Cancer.
Don’t worry if you can’t make it to any of the shows, just text “STS9” to 95173 and they will send you a pre-paid envelope to send back anything you want to recycle. You can mail these electronics back in anytime between now and the end of 2011 to help raise money for Rock Against Cancer!
For every product recycled, LG is giving Sound Tribe $2.00 to go towards Rock Against Cancer - bassist David Murphy's favorite charity after beating cancer earlier this year.
Below is a list of dates where representatives will be collecting your electronics:
The Orbit Room in Grand Rapids, MI on Oct. 5
The House of Blues in Cleveland, OH on Oct. 6

On Monday, July 26, 2010, the House Subcommittee on Defense Appropriations recommended a budget for 2011. The proposed budget earmarked $5 million for CureSearch for Children’s Cancer.
“This is a win for the community,” said Cynthia Duncan, Director of Advocacy, CureSearch for Children’s Cancer.
The proposed $5 million for research is a significant increase from last year’s funding. The budget must still pass the full House Appropriations Committee, the ful House and Senate, and be signed by President Obama.
“While we are excited about this development,” said John L. Lehr, President and CEO, CureSearch for Children’s Cancer, “We must continue to apply the appropriate level of advocacy on the Senate side and then again during the House-Senate conference”.

Rock Against Cancer is very proud to announce that “School of Rock” music therapist Beth Collier was awarded the 2010 Healthcare HEROES Allied Health Professional Award by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Collier is BC-MT at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where she works with young cancer patients at two hospitals.
Beth has been a tireless advocate for the use of music therapy for young cancer patients. She has created an outstanding program that eases the pain, nausea and anxiety associated with disease treatment. Beth continues to bring the sound of music to children at Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders in Atlanta.
RAC is proud to have provided the funding that put Beth to work in 1998 to help young cancer patients. We are very proud of her excellent work that led to the prestigious Healthcare HEROES Allied Health Professional Award.

Please visit our Remembrance page as we honor and remember those children who touched our lives through their battle with cancer.
Rock Against Cancer knows that every dollar spent on cancer research brings us one cent closer to finding the cure. Last month,, they teamed up with families, care givers and providers affected by childhood cancer to convince Congress to increase children’s cancer research funding, increase incentives to rapidly advance the development of new life saving treatments and to increase support along with education for survivors.
Rock Against Cancer attended this event, sponsored by CureSearch, called Children’s Cancer Awareness and Advocacy Day on March 16-17, 2011. During these two days, this event will take place on Capitol Hill and included visits to Congress members from all states.
“The frustration in the childhood cancer community has boiled over, the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act passed in 2008 and Congress has never appropriated funds for the life saving research needed to save young lives. Not that this is a fight but other diseases such as Breast Cancer or Autism, with louder lobbying groups of patients, survivors, researchers receive more federal funding. The childhood cancer community will come together on March 18 to put forth one vision of how to fund the cure for childhood cancer.” Lisa L. White, Ph.D, Founder & Executive Director of Rock Against Cancer. Dr. White will attend this event, along with Board Member Kim Voss, on behalf of Rock Against Cancer this year.
Despite advances made in cancer research, cancer is still the number one killer of children by disease. Although 78 percent of children diagnosed with cancer will survive their diagnosis, three out of five will suffer long-term affects from their disease or treatment. Improving treatments for children can add up to 60 years to a child’s life.
In this age of financial uncertainty, it is important to have strong Congressional support to keep the research funding from being cut. To ensure continued House and Senate support for childhood cancer research funding, CureSearch holds annual advocacy events for the childhood cancer community to participate.
Along with this event, Dr. White and Mrs. Voss will be attending the first annual “Workshop in Washington DC” put together by Bob Piniewski, founder of PAC2, an online community for those affected by childhood cancer. This Workshop will be held on March 18, 2011 to join together representatives from over 35 childhood cancer organizations across the country. The ultimate goal is to “foster and facilitate collaboration between the groups, using PAC2 as a platform”. Rock Against Cancer is thrilled to be part of this inaugural event.

For information on Rock Against Cancer’s involvement feel free to visit www.rockagainstcancer.org or contact Ashley at Ashley@rockagainstcancer.org. 6 year old leukemia patient Josh, stole the show with his excitement during the August 21st "Stars Night Out" event with Jack Johnson.....from backstage parking to dinner and ice cream with the band, autographed water bottles and posters and amazing seats, Josh rocked all night long!
Letter from Josh's parents:
Lisa, We can't thank you enough for the amazing night we had tonight. The boys were
absolutley giddy on the way home. Jon and I are both in awe of what you have
accomplished and it was wonderful to hear how well Gabe is doing. This evening was
so special, we know the next 2 months are going to be rough as we go thru delayed
intensification but it is memories like this that will get us through. I think
Josh's muscles had the best workout in 4 months - since dancing with Trey at Duke.
I wanted to just give you a quick look at the happiness you brought to
us tonight. How wonderful to have such a special and amazing experience and be able
to find the good even in something as horrible as cancer. With much appreciation,
The Paryz Family

Letter from the family of Haley (pictured below in the orange shirt), a young cancer patient who attended the Paramore concert:
We wanted to give a heart felt thank you for your organization. There are not enough words to show our gratitude for giving are family a cherished moment. The Paramore concert was the first one that our girls have ever went to and it was priceless watching how they enjoyed it. Haley had a wonderful night. It was such a nice breath of fresh air, not worrying about stressful things such as medical issues. Cancer touches all of us in one form or another. I do believe awareness is a key to this type of cancer.
Our family is strong and hold fast to what the future holds in finding cures and exceptional treatments in all cancers. It is wonderful to sit and think about how children can shape the world.
Thank you again.

Billy "Bubba" Walden was very excited to see Eddie Vedder in concert, unfortunately his disease had other plans which forced him to stay in the hospital on the night of the concert in Atlanta. When Eddie Vedder heard one of his biggest fans was unable to attend his concert, the Pearl Jam lead singer autographed a poster and t-shirt for Bubba. What would have been a Star's Night Out for Bubba was turned into a Gift's from the Heart gift basket by the gracious artist. The Gift's from the Heart program was started by Rock Against Cancer for situations where young cancer patients are too sick to leave the hospital to meet their favorite artist's in person.

An 18 year old cancer patient named Leo had the time of his life last night, June 24, 2009. Not only did he get to meet one of his absolute favorite artists, Stevie Wonder but he was also invited to sit on stage with the musical legend during the concert in Atlanta. Leo has been battling Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and highly agressive form of cancer, for years. Leo's constant upbeat and positive attitude came across perfectly in an interview with 11Alive.com reporter, Jaye Watson. Leo was asked if he ever wondered why he was striken with cancer and his reply was "No, do you think Stevie Wonder ever sits around and wonders why me? Why I am blind? I do not believe he does". After the concert, Stevie gave Leo a very valuable souvenir, the harmonica played at the very concert which Leo will never forget.

On Gabe Titus' 15th birthday, he got to do something most kids only dream about. He spent the night, along with six other children/teens battling cancer, their friends, family and his mother, Lisa White at a Coldplay concert in Atlanta. Not only is Gabe the son of the Rock Against Cancer founder, he is also a childhood cancer survivor, which made this concert all the more special to him and his family. The group got to meet the band backstage, get autographs, take pictures and share stories with Coldplay members, Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman. They enjoyed the concert from the 2nd row of Lakewood Ampitheatre and were able to spend the night forgetting about hosptials, treatments and cancer altogether. Rock Against Cancer is planning many more Star's Night Out concerts in 2009 with many of today's top artists such as Beyonce and No Doubt to bring the healing power of music to children battling cancer
